Wondered what sauna is all about but never had the information for it? Many people mistake sauna to be steam bath but that is not the case. While steam bath has 100% humidity, a sauna has 20-25% humidity.

The word sauna has been derived from Finnish word “savu” which means “smoke”. A sauna consists of a room built of wood which can be heated up to 180 F. The stones are heated so as to produce steam when water is poured over them.

In the sauna the wood absorbs the moisture thus creating a dry atmosphere which promotes perspiration which opens the skin pores and cleans the skin. Wet version of sauna is called the steam bath. A sauna is generally a social affair in which people sit together in temperature around 80 degrees.
